Sony unveils new LYTIA image sensors with 50MP resolution for mobile devices
In November 2022, Sony introduced the LYTIA brand, dedicated to a fresh lineup of image sensors designed specifically for mobile devices. The company has now disclosed details about its latest additions to this series. Here's everything you need to know.
Sony's LYTIA series introduces impressive 50MP image sensors
Previously, Sony offered its IMX series for its cutting-edge image sensors. However, the company seems to be expanding its image sensor portfolio for various mobile platforms. It remains uncertain whether the LYTIA brand will eventually replace the IMX series or coexist alongside it. Sony's Semiconductor Solutions unit is set to release new sensors across the lineup, boasting an impressive 50 megapixels.
The entry-level model is the LYT500, featuring a compact 1/2.93-inch sensor with 0.6-micron pixels. On the other hand, the higher-end LYT700 supports HDR and incorporates a 1/1.56-inch sensor. Taking it a step further, the premium LYT800 is tailored for high-end devices and becomes the first imaging CMOS to support a "2-layer transistor pixel structure, delivering exceptional saturation signal levels." However, the lineup doesn't conclude there; there's a flagship sensor known as the LYT900, specially designed for top-tier devices.
This model boasts an impressive 1-inch (1/0.98 inches) sensor and is expected to make its way into flagship-grade smartphones. While the specific models that will adopt these new image sensors are yet to be confirmed, they are likely to be featured in devices such as the upcoming Oppo Find X series or Xiaomi's Ultra-grade models from their numbered series. Stay tuned for more updates.
